French authorities have confirmed the country will lift restrictions for travellers from the UK from tomorrow.
In a tweet, French government minister Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne said the rules, introduced in December, would be relaxed for vaccinated travellers.
He added that the restriction requiring a compelling reason to travel to France would end as would the need to quarantine on arrival.
Proof of a negative coronavirus test taken less than 24 hours before departure will now be required.
Demoyne said the move would be formally published tomorrow and have immediate effect.
Reacting to the news, Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO said: “WTTC welcomes the reopening of French borders to UK travellers. Once a variant is endemic closing borders is pointless and only damages livelihoods especially in travel and tourism one of the hardest hit sectors during the pandemic.
“France is one of the biggest markets for UK tourists who, according to WTTC’s 2021 Economic Impact Report, account for 14% of overseas visitors. Total international visitor spend in France was worth more than €60 billion pre-pandemic.”
Meanwhile, figures from aviation data specialist Cirium reveal scheduled flights between the UK and France in January 2022 are 144 per cent higher than January 2021 but 66 per cent down on January 2020 and 67 per cent down on January 2019.
Earlier this week Italy said it was extending its restrictions in an attempt to stem the spread of the Omicron variant.
