Business travel spend at large German companies rose faster than at small to medium sized enterprises in the country, according to new statistics on the German business travel market.
The 2016 VDR Business Travel Analysis shows that the spend at companies with more than 500 employees grew by 7.4% year on year, while the number of trips grew by 4.4%. VDR suggests that more foreign overnight trips, and higher costs in overseas destinations, is a possible reason for the increase.
The number of business trips made by small to medium sized enterprises grew by just 1.8%, while spend increased by 3.6% year on year.
The figures come against a backdrop of growth in GDP in the country of 1.7% during the year and an increase in the number of business trips of just under 4%. The average spend per traveller per day was €153, compared with €146 in 2014.
