Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air has announced it will
launch its Abu Dhabi-based subsidiary on 1 October with two Airbus A321neo
aircraft operating a network of six international routes.
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, a joint venture with one of the region’s
largest holding companies ADQ, has received national carrier status from the
UAE government subject to meeting regulatory standards prior to launching
operations.
The airline will offer an initial route network including
Alexandria, Athens, Kutaisi, Larnaca, Odesa and Yerevan. The flights add a
combined 350,000 seats from Abu Dhabi annually, though Wizz Air plans to base a
further four A321neos at the airport within the first six months of launching.
The Kutaisi and Odesa flights will operate on Thursday and
Sunday from 1 October, followed by Alexandria and Athens on Monday, Wednesday
and Friday from 2 October. Larnaca and Yerevan will operated on Tuesday and
Saturday from 3 October. Tickets are on sale via the airline’s website, as well
as its new Arabic website and mobile app.
Wizz Air said all flights will operate with the group’s
enhanced hygiene measures and safety protocols, which includes the requirement for
all passengers and crew to wear face coverings.
