Budget carrier Wizz Air is to launch a new base at Turin Airport from autumn 2026, allowing it to add seven new routes and double seat capacity.
Hungary-based Wizz said it will open the base at Turin from 14 September when the airport will become its seventh base in Italy and 40th globally. The airline will initially base one aircraft at Turin before adding a second from 25 October.
The move will allow the addition of two new domestic routes from Turin to Rome Fiumicino and Naples airports, as well as launching flights to five destinations in Spain: Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Valencia and Malaga.
Wizz, which has been operating flights from Turin since 2004, said the expansion meant it would operate 16 routes to eight countries this year, with a total of nearly 1.3 million seats — more than doubling the carrier’s capacity from the airport year-on-year.
Before opening the base in September, Wizz is also adding new routes from Turin to Palermo from 4 May and to London Luton from 9 June as part of its summer schedule.
Andras Szabo, network officer at Wizz Air, said opening the base at Turin would “strengthen connectivity in Northern Italy”.
“It is a tangible investment in the region, capable not only of generating economic value and employment, but also of significantly contributing to making Turin and Piedmont increasingly accessible, dynamic and competitive within the European landscape,” added Szabo.
The airline will offer 11 weekly flights between Turin and Rome Fiumicino from September 14, while flights to Barcelona, Bilbao and Valencia will also start in mid-September, followed by Madrid and Malaga on October 25 and 26 respectively, and Naples from 1 December.
