Virgin Atlantic has begun refitting its seven B747 aircraft serving flights from Gatwick to destinations including Orlando, Las Vegas and the Caribbean.
The carrier says it will spend more than £50 million “sprucing up their fleet of jumbo jets”, with 125 project staff spending a total of 95,000 hours fitting over 32,000 new parts.
The work will take place between now and October, with new seats and in-flight entertainment systems being fitted, and aircraft fuselages being repainted.
Virgin is in the process of upgrading its fleet and lounge facilities. It recently opened its new lounge at New York JFK , and is set to unveil an “enhanced” Upper Class seat on new Airbus A330 aircraft which will debut on the London-New York route.
