Italian carriers ITA Airways and Aeroitalia have formed an interline agreement covering their respective networks for the remainder of the summer and the upcoming winter season.
The deal will allow ITA customers to book integrated itineraries through the carrier’s sales channels, including multiple daily connections to Aeroitalia destinations in Sardinia (Cagliari, Alghero and Olbia), Sicily (Catania, Palermo and Comiso) and Genoa.
Aeroitalia customers will initially be able to access ITA Airways’ domestic network through Aeroitalia’s indirect sales channels. Following technical implementation, which will be completed “shortly”, ITA Airways’ full international network will also be made available via Aeroitalia’s website.
The launch of interline flight sales is the first joint initiative by the two airlines since they signed an agreement last June to develop commercial partnerships and boost air connectivity across Italy.
Joerg Eberhart, CEO and general manager of ITA Airways, now part of the Lufthansa Group, said the partnership “complements other collaborations already underway with various airlines and rail operators, in line with the strategy we’ve launched to develop more connections that will feed into our international and intercontinental network, while ensuring extensive coverage across Italy and greater operational efficiency".
Aeroitalia CEO Gaetano Intrieri added: “This partnership represents a significant step in Aeroitalia’s growth and is fully in line with our strategy to develop the national network, with the goal of ensuring widespread, high-quality mobility throughout Italy.”
Aeroitalia this month also agreed a “multi-year” distribution deal with Travelport, giving Travelport Plus-connected agencies access to the carrier’s content. Rich content and branding capabilities will also be activated from 2028, according to the technology company.
