United Airlines has resumed transatlantic flights from Glasgow Airport for the first time since 2019 with a route to Newark Liberty International Airport.
The new seasonal summer route started on Friday (8 May) and will operate daily until 24 October, using Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft fitted with 166 seats across economy, Economy Plus and United Premium Plus cabins.
United last served Glasgow in October 2019 and its return also marks the first time a US carrier has operated scheduled flights from the Scottish airport since before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Kam Jandu, CEO of AGS Airports, which runs Glasgow Airport, said: “This new service is a significant boost for connectivity, providing a vital link for travellers from the west coast of Scotland, whilst supporting inbound tourism.”
United already operates from Edinburgh Airport to Newark and Washington DC, as well as offering a seasonal summer route to Chicago O’Hare.
Karolien De Hertogh, United’s director of sales for the UK and Ireland, said the return to Glasgow “further underlines the importance of Scotland within United’s global route network”.
“With more seats and flights from Scotland to the United States than any other airline, our customers in Scotland can enjoy even greater travel choice and the possibility to connect seamlessly via our US hubs to over 220 onward destinations across the Americas,” she added.
