Thousands of flights have been cancelled and delayed in the US with more disruption expected this week as blizzard conditions hit the north east of the country.
More than 1,800 flights have been cancelled today with around the same number expected tomorrow as New York, Boston and Philadelphia airports are affected by the weather.
British Airways has issued a statement apologising for cancelling seven flights from Heathrow to New York and one to Boston airport today and said passengers can expect delays tomorrow (January 27).
“On Monday 26 January heavy snow is forecast to fall over the East Coast of the USA. We anticipate that some flights to and from the US will be disrupted,” BA said in a statement.
“Many flights may need to have de-icing treatment on their wings, engines and fuselage, before they are cleared for take-off and this might also lead to some flight delays throughout the day.”
The majority of disrupted services will be domestic flights in the US with United already cancelling 481 flights for Tuesday, Jet Blue has cancelled 461 and Express Jet 267.
Virgin Atlantic has cancelled three London to New York flights today, as well as one tomorrow morning. It also cancelled two flights to Boston.
It has advised passengers to check the airline’s website before travelling.
