The UK should escape further disruption from the Icelandic ash cloud today with the vast majority of flights operating normally.
Discharges from the Grimsvotn volcano led to the cancellation of flights to and from Germany yesterday, but its emissions have reduced dramatically and are not expected to cause further disruption in the next few days.
Lufthansa said all its flights were operating normally. British Airways is also operating as scheduled and has yet to count the cost of the disruption. A BA spokeswoman said: “It’s far too early to say. The volcano affected Scotland and northern England for one day. There may be an effect on traffic stats but it is not likely to be particularly significant.”
NATS, the air traffic control provider, said no high density ash was currently predicted to enter UK airspace today.
