Turkish Airlines has reported a surge in profits with the airline surpassing $1 billion for the first time in its history.
The carrier saw profits rise 32 per cent in 2015 compared to the previous year. It said the results strenthen its position as one the world’s “most profitable airlines”.
Profit from main operations stood at $895 million with sales hitting $10 billion.
In 2015, Turkish Airlines saw capacity increase 13.6 percent (available seat km) and carried 61.2 milllion passengers on its 453,000 flights with a load factor of 78 per cent.
“Turkish Airlines has reinforced its position among the most profitable airlines with these financial results. It has been a challenging year with fierce competition in the global aviation industry, combined with political and economical instabilities and significant currency fluctuations.” Said İlker Aycı, Turkish Airlines’ chairman of the board and the executive comittee.
