The Institute of Travel and Meetings (ITM) is looking for a traveller safety and security partner to join its recently established Phoenix Group.
Phoenix was created in May, in the aftermath of the volcanic ash crisis, to act as an operational support group during times of crisis in the travel and meetings industry.
Jamie Hindhaugh, ITM Chairman, said he has been "overwhelmed" by the support of the project so far.
"[I] can truly say it is an example of the industry pulling together as one," he said.
The group - which counts Martin Ferguson, editor of ABTN and its sister publication Buying Business Travel, among its volunteer participants - also plans to publish a paper later this year on the lessons learned from the ash crisis.
"It is clear there is so much great information out there we can learn from and use to advance and further professionalise this industry," said Hindhaugh.
"Using a single vehicle to achieve this with the support of the whole industry is key to its success and I'm delighted by the collaboration to date."
The Phoenix group is now on the look-out for a traveller safety and security partner, to provide early-warning guidance when a crisis occurs and ongoing information and expertise as a crisis develops, through a dedicated ITM micro-site.
The selection process for the new partner involves a full request for proposal (RFP). Representatives from the Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC) and Advantage travel Centres will sit on the judging panel alongside ITM bosses.
