Hoteliers and serviced apartment providers can now apply to become an approved government supplier.
The invitation to tender from Buying Solutions, which appoints all government providers, is thought to be worth some £70 million.
The tender states that Buying Solutions is "seeking to establish a list of multiple venues for overnight accommodation for use by or on behalf of UK public sector organizations".
Given the economic climate, the public sector is looking to "consolidate volumers and deliver savings", through negotiated rates, which will go live in January.
Buying Solutions said it will develop "closer working relationships" with successful companies.
