Easyjet has cancelled 30 per cent of services to and from France due to a 48-hour strike by cabin crew based in the country.
Two French unions SNPNC and UNAC started the industrial action at 00.01 today (December 31) and the stoppage is due to continue until 23.59 on January 1.
Easyjet said that no “UK touching” flights would be affected by the cancellations on December 31. It added that it would operate 927 flights across its network on December 31 including 562 services to and from the UK.
A total of 70 flights to and from France have been cancelled today including 38 serving Paris airports, 20 from Lyon, six from Nice, four from Toulouse and two from Lille.
“We would like to reassure customers that we are doing everything possible to minimise any disruption as a result of the industrial action,” said the airline.
“Passengers affected by rescheduled flights and any passengers whose flight falls within the strike period will be contacted by Easyjet and can either receive a full refund or rebook their travel for an alternative date free of charge so they are able to reorganise their travel plans.”
Easyjet advised passengers due to fly on December 31 and January 1 to check the status of their flights through the airline’s website.
The no-frills airline was forced to cancel some flights on Boxing Day during a similar two-day stoppage last week by Easyjet staff who are members of the two French unions.
The unions said they had called the new 48-hour walkout because Easyjet had not opened negotiations with them in the dispute over rotas and profit sharing.
“Easyjet remains open and committed to finding a suitable resolution with the unions,” said the airline in a statement.
