GDS provider Amadeus today (18 January) announced Silverjet is implementing e-ticketing for its users, the 150th UK carrier to do so.
Amadeus has enabled e-ticketing for 247 airlines in 146 markets worldwide, and in the last six months in the UK alone has added 30 carriers including Malaysia Airlines and Flybe.
The system was designed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to facilitate and simplify the selling, reporting and remitting procedures of IATA-accredited travel agents and improve the financial control and cash flow for airlines.
Amadeus says that globally 87% of tickets issued through its system are now electronic.
Back in 2007, IATA had originally set a deadline last December for the new system to be implemented but that was extended to the 31 May due to the number of airlines which would have difficulty meeting it.
”We are extremely proud to be working with such a large number of airlines that have succeeded in meeting IATA”s 100% e-ticketing deadline of 31 May,” said Amadeus UK and Ireland director of marketing, Elaine Seeto.
”One hundred and fifty airlines represents around 82% of all UK BSP carriers so this is a significant milestone for travel agents and their customers who benefit from a more streamlined airport experience ” including the facility of self-service check-in where offered.”
