Singapore Airlines has announced plans to launch wifi internet access and mobile phone services onboard on all its longhaul aircraft.
Due to be rolled out from the first half of next year, the service will be available on all SIA's longhaul aircraft, including A380s, A340-500s and B777-300s.
Provided by OnAir, the technology will mean passengers can send text messages, receive emails on smartphones, surf the web and make phone calls.
The airline has been trialling onboard internet access since 2005.
Yap Kim Wah, Singapore Airlines' senior VP product and services, said: "Unlike the earlier trial introduction of an Internet service, this suite of features is for full implementation and we are pleased to offer this as an added choice to our inflight programme."
Wah added that the technology has become more affordable due to higher usage and more advanced technology.
Details of charges will be announced closer to the launch, but customers who use the mobile telephony services will be their own telecommunications provider, where international GSM roaming rates apply.
For Internet access, customers will be able to sign up for an access package when logging in to the system.
