Singapore Airlines (SIA) will start codesharing on fellow Star Alliance member Spanair's flights to Brazil, from March 2011.
The codeshare deal on the three-times weekly flights marks SIA's first foray into South America.
Bey Soo Khiang, SIA's Senior Executive VP marketing and corporate services, said Singapore Airlines has been "eyeing opportunities in the fast-growing South American market for some time".
He said the new service "will help boost ties between Singapore and Brazil and pave the way for enhanced trade, tourism and travel links between Asia and South America."
SIA will put its SQ flight code onto the Spanish carrier's flights between Barcelona and Sao Paulo, Brazil's largest city.
The Singapore-based airline currently flies daily between Singapore and Barcelona, via the northern Italian city of Milan.
From March next year, the carrier will introduce direct flights between Singapore and Barcelona three times a week, while reducing the service via Milan to four-times weekly.
The airline will also introduce three additional services per week between Singapore and Milan, which means Milan will continue to be served daily. Details of flight times are yet to be announced.
SIA has an existing codeshare agreement with Spanair on domestic flights between Barcelona and Madrid, Bilbao and Palma Mallorca.
