Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and Singapore Airlines (SIA) are looking at ways of working closer together, the airlines have revealed.
In a joint statement from the airlines, plans for a development of the existing codeshare partnership were mooted.
The two carriers entered a codeshare agreement in December 2010, which saw SAS add its flight code to SIA-operated flights between Copenhagen and Singapore, and om selected flights between Singapore and Bangkok.
At the same time, SIA put its flight code on SAS-operated flights from Copenhagen to Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm.
The two airlines may be looking at other ways that they can capitalize on the growing Asian market, something SAS’ close regional competitor Finnair has made its core strategy for some time.
Robin Kamark, SAS’ chief commercial officer, and Tan Chik Quee, SIA’s SVP for marketing, said they see opportunities for “deeper cooperation”.
“[This] will strengthen our customer offering and provide more options for seamless travel between Northern Europe and South East Asia,” they said.
“We look forward to announcing these plans once they are finalised."
