BAA "not fit for purpose" after protests, says airline
Ryanair has demanded answers after the disruption caused by protesters earlier this week.
Stansted's largest airline called on BAA to explain why protestors were able to breach security, why it took five hours to remove them and why passengers travel plans were disrupted.
The Irish LCC said security failures at Stansted join a "long list of management failures at the airport including lengthy queues at security and at passport control."
Ryanair's Stephen McNamara said: "The security at BAA Stansted Airport has once again failed. We need to know what measures the BAA is putting in place to prevent these repeated security failures. BAA Stansted is not fit for purpose."
Ryanair renewed its call for the break-up of what it said is a BAA monopoly.
It also said the sale of Stansted would improve customer services and "end these BAA cock-ups."
On Monday (December 8) 50 protestors from action group Plane Stupid caused delays and cancellations to flights in and out of Stanstead airport.
Unhappy at airport expansion plans, the group began their "peaceful" protest at 3.15am, surrounding themselves with security fencing.
Services resumed at 8.06 after a number of arrests were made, however delays continued for several days after.
