Ryanair's Birmingham route map
Ryanair today (15 January) announced its 25th European base in Birmingham with a host of extra routes.
Two Boeing 737-800 aircraft will deliver 20 new services to Denmark (1) France (5), Italy (5), Norway (1), Poland (3), Portugal (1), Slovakia (1), Spain (2), and Sweden (1).
Ryanair has invested $700m (”356m) which will also pay for a further eight 737-800 aircraft. It plans to carry five million passengers annually, accounting for a visitor spend of ”400m ($787m), which it says will sustain 5,000 jobs in the west Midlands. The base is scheduled to open in June.
”The people of Birmingham have been woefully undeserved and overcharged by British Airways and Flybe”s high fares for years,” said Ryanair CEO, Michael O”Leary. ”Ryanair”s new base will smash this high fare stranglehold by delivering savings of ”130m ($256m) next year for Birmingham”s passengers and visitors.”
Fares range on the new routes. The cheapest is to Shannon from just ”5 ($10) including taxes, but most others start at ”24 ($47) one-way including taxes.
Barcelona (one way) ”at ”24 Inc taxes
Stockholm (one-way) ””24 Inc taxes
Dublin (one-way) ””10 Inc taxes
Marseille (one-way) ”24 Inc taxes
O”Leary added, ”Direct international services are fundamental to the economic development of a city like Birmingham, and people can now look forward to Europe”s guaranteed lowest fares to 22 destinations. This route count will more than double as a result of Ryanair”s investment, bringing with it a significant increase both in European visitors and jobs.”
Ryanair are offering all passengers who buy a return flight on any route from Birmingham before midnight on 17 January a free bonus flight (no taxes, fees or charges) for travel in February to Dublin or Shannon.
