The Queen's speech delivered in parliament today (May 25) revealed government plans to change the financial management of airports in Britain.
The Queen said her government would "reform economic regulation of airports to benefit passengers."
The airport economic regulation Bill will focus on improving the competitiveness of UK airports, and could herald the further break-up of the UK's largest airport operator, BAA.
BAA was forced to sell Gatwick airport last year after the Competition Commission ruled there was a lack of competitiveness between airports in the south east.
The Queen's speech announced a further 22 bills, including enabling the construction of high speed rail services and abolishing identity cards.
