Both flight data recorders have been recovered from yesterday”s (16 September) One-Two-Go accident that saw a McDonnell Douglas MD-82 involved in an incident on landing in Phuket (Thailand), with the loss of 89 passengers.
Thai government sources are quoting local news media as saying that of the dead, some 55 were foreign, while 40 passengers are also believed to have survived.
Pictures from the crash scene show the charred remains of the MD-82, while the airport remains closed until possibly this evening. Airport authorities are using a crane to move the wreckage, with Thai Prime Minister, General Surayud Chulanont, scheduled to visit the scene later today.
One Two Go”s flight OG 269 operating from Bangkok to Phuket, had reportedly attempted to land in heavy rain and strong crosswinds, according to government sources.
Boeing says it is sending an investigator as part of the US team, that will provide technical assistance to the Thai authorities.
