Europe’s third largest budget airline Norwegian Air has cancelled more flights today as the pilots’ strike enters its second week.
The airline confirmed all domestic flights in Norway and Sweden will be cancelled due to the strike, while “a few” domestic routes in Denmark will operate. Most flights between the Scandinavian capitals will also be cancelled.
Long-haul flights to the US and Thailand will not be affected.
The airline predicts around 25,000 passengers will be hit by today’s action.
The pilots are striking in order to achieve a collective labour agreement with Norwegian's parent company, instead of its local subsidiaries, and for the same employment terms to be put in place across Norway, Sweden and Denmark. They went on strike after talks broke down over a week ago.
The pilots argue that the deal is needed to stop the airline from giving jobs to lower paid pilots from Asia and Spain, thereby "importing" lower salaries to Scandinavia.
Norwegian said passengers affected by cancellations can call its customer service centre at +47 21 49 21 49.
The Scandinavian low-cost airline reported its first annual net loss in 2014 in at least eight years, as it attempts to grow its low-cost long-haul services.
