Low-cost carrier Norwegian is set to expand its long-haul network from Gatwick when the airline secures a full UK operating licence.
Norwegian, which already flies from Gatwick to the US, is set to be granted a full UK operating licence by the Civil Aviation Authority next week which will allow it to expand its long-haul routes.
According to The Times, Norwegian will be granted access to countries which have a bilateral deal on flights with the UK government.
Norwegian’s CEO Bjorn Kjos said that the airline would initially look at routes to India such as Delhi, Mumbai and Calcutta, with destinations including South Africa, Argentina and Brazil planned for 2017. He added that flights could also operate from Birmingham.
“Securing a UK operating licence will be an important step to get a stronger foothold in the UK as we plan for further expansion, new routes and new jobs,” said Kjos.
