Nice Cote d’Azur airport is to become fully powered by renewable electricity from the start of next year.
The airport is set to become the first in France to use renewable power from French hydraulic production.
Dominique Thillaud, chairman of the board of the Airports of Cote d’Azur, said: “I am delighted that our decision comes in a little in advance of the policy of energy transition for green growth.
“The fact that Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur is one of the leading French regions in the production of electricity from renewable energy sources is also a great satisfaction for us.”
Thillaud added that the close proximity of these energy sources would offer a “guarantee of efficiency and cost savings”.
The move will help the Airports of Cote d’Azur group to get closer to its target of becoming carbon neutral by 2018 and the purchase of hydraulic electricity should make it possible for the group to cut emissions by 60 per cent.
