Police have given the all-clear at JFK airport after Terminal 8 was evacuated Sunday night in a security scare.
Flights were grounded and those en-route diverted after police received calls of shots being fired inside the airport.
"At this time, no firearm, rounds or shell casings or other evidence of shots fired has been found," said Joe Pentangelo, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department.
Some services are experiencing delays as a result of the incident.
No one was injured during the airport scare.
Inbound flights were delayed at their origin and no flights already en route were allowed to land at the airport and were instead diverted during the security lockdown between 9.30pm local time on Sunday and 12.30am on Monday.
Accoridng to local reports passengers which had already landed found themselves stranded on the planes on the tarmac for hours.
