Iberia will commence four-times weekly flights to El Salvador from October 2.
The carrier will be the first European airline to connect Europe and El Salvador, and will add to the carrier's existing flights from Madrid to the Central American countries of Costa Rica, Panama and Guatemala.
The outbound flight from Madrid will go via Guatemala City, but the inbound flight is non-stop.
Flights will depart Madrid on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 1230, arriving in Guatemala City at 1545, before taking off for El Salvador's capital San Salvador at 1720, and arriving at 1810. The return leg will depart at 1940, landing in Madrid at 1415 the following day.
Passengers will also be able to connect in San Salvador onto regional flights including Managua (Nicaragua), San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa (both in Honduras), through a codeshare agreement with Taca Airlines.
The route will be plied with A340 aircraft configured for 254 passengers, including 36 Business Plus fully-flat seats.
The news will be of interest to UK-based travellers looking to reach El Salvador, as the forthcoming merger between BA and Iberia should allow for convenient connections from London via Madrid.
