Dubai-based airline Emirates started flights from Manchester using an Airbus A380 today (September 1).
One of the twice-daily flights will now be operated using the superjumbo.
Today's flight marked the first time an A380 has been used for a scheduled service out of a regional airport in the UK.
Emirates also broke the record for the number of passengers flown on a scheduled flight from Manchester airport.
Maurice Flanagan, Emirates' executive vice chairman: "This is a historic moment for Emirates as we bring our 21st century superjumbo to the North West twenty years after our first flight from the region.
"Our Manchester service has been an incredible success story, and we're delighted to be opening the next chapter today."
