Malaysia Airlines CEO Christoph Mueller has moved forward his resignation and will now depart the company on July 1.
Mueller resigned in March and said he would continue as chief executive until September. He will be replaced by chief operating officer Peter Bellew in an “accelerated leadership transition”.
The leadership changes have been approved by Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah), the sole shareholder of MAG.
Mueller joined the company from Aer Lingus in 2015 to help drive a turnaround programme. The airline had been struggling financially even before the loss of two aircraft in 2014 – MH370 and MH17.
He declared that the company was “technically bankrupt” in June last year, when he also unveiled plans for a complete restructure and 6,000 job losses.
