Striking Lufthansa pilots will extend their action into Wednesday (September 9), hitting the airline’s short-haul services.
The Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) union, which represents around 5,000 pilots at the German company, has already announced a strike for today – starting at 08:00 GMT until 23:59 GMT – that will affect long-haul and cargo services.
Tomorrow's 24-hour strike will hit short-haul Lufthansa and Germanwings flights.
Lufthansa said it would operate around 90 out of 170 planned long-haul flights for today and expects to cancel hundreds of flights on Wednesday, when it has 1,350 short-haul flights planned.

The action is part of a long-running dispute over pay, retirement benefits and cost cuts. Today’s strike is the 13th in 18 months.
VC spokesman Markus Wahl said the airline has not shown any willingness to reach an agreement.
Pilots went on strike more than 10 times last year over Lufthansa’s plans to phase out its early retirement scheme that currently sees pilots retire at 55 and retain around 60% of their pay until they reach the state pension age.
