German pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) has called for Lufthansa pilots to stage a walk-out between February 22 and 25.
The dispute is over Lufthansa's "ongoing programme to safeguard the company's earnings", which aims to cut €1bn in costs and 20% of the workforce.
A Lufthansa spokeswoman said: "Our standpoint remains that a strike will potentially cause considerable damage to the company, affecting customers and staff.
"The call for strike action is entirely inappropriate.
"Numerous proposals have been put forward by Lufthansa concerning job security.
"Lufthansa would urge that VC return to the negotiating table to find a more constructive solution to the dispute."
Negotiations stalled between Lufthansa and VC in December.
Lufthansa says it has no plans to impose compulsory redundancy. The reduction in staff numbers will be achieved though "natural wastage; people taking unpaid leave, and when a person leaves the position is not filled again", said the airline.
The VC union represents 4,500 pilots employed by Lufthansa, Lufthansa Cargo and Germanwings.
Passengers booked on flights with Lufthansa during the strike period have been told they can rebook once free of charge, provided their ticket was issued before February 18 and the new date of travel is before May 31.
Lufthansa said it "regrets any inconvenience to Lufthansa passengers caused by the strike and will do its utmost to reduce the impact for travellers".
