Lufthansa passengers on services from Frankfurt to Istanbul and from Newark to Frankfurt and Munich can now store their Covid test certificates electronically and have them checked to ensure they comply with entry requirements before travel, the airline has announced.
From Friday this week, passengers on these routes can optionally send their Covid-19 test certificates to a newly established Health Entry Support Center from 72 hours before departure. In March, the service will also be offered to passengers on Swiss on the Newark to Zurich route.
Passengers travelling on these flights will receive advance notification and a link to a portal where the relevant contact data and certificates can be stored. At the service centre, the documents are checked. After the check, the customer receives confirmation by e-mail whether the certificates meet the entry requirements or feedback if the documents are not sufficient. The original certificates must still be carried on the trip.
Lufthansa says the system will make check-in and boarding faster and smoother and plans to roll the service out to all routes if successful.
On 1 February, a new rule came into force which means Lufthansa passengers must wear medical-grade masks onboard.
