Dutch airline KLM is refusing to pay out full compensation to its passengers who were stranded due to the ash cloud.
The airline has paid out one day and one night's worth of expenses, but a KLM spokeswoman said it is waiting for a decision from European transport ministers before it pays out the rest.
The spokeswoman told ABTN: "European ministers of transport are still discussing the way passengers should be compensated for the consequences of the delays of the ash cloud.
"KLM has said we don't want to wait until politicians have made up their minds, so we decided to compensate everybody one day and one night. Not all airlines have done the same, but KLM has done it already."
When asked when passengers would receive the full compensation, she said: "I don't know if there will be more compensation. That depends on the decision the ministers of transport take."
A number of British passengers have taken their frustration at the lack of compensation to the Air Transport Users Council (AUC), part of the Civil Aviation Authority.
The AUC has also received complaints about KLM's sister airline Air France, a CAA spokesman told ABTN.
The CAA, which is now representing these passengers, is now attempting to liaise with French and Dutch aviation authorities to see what approach they have taken.
The spokesman said he know nothing of KLM's claims that EU transport ministers are discussing whether compensation should be paid in full.
"The EC is very clear that there is a right to reasonable expenses back... The law was the law and the law still is the law," he said. "By not paying out for reasonable expenses you would be in breach of regulations."
Reports say the European Commission is also now involved, and is threatening KLM with legal action.
