From July 1 Iberia will start twice-weekly flights between Madrid and Morocco’s capital Rabat.
The Spanish carrier claims to be the only airline to link the two capitals directly.
Flights, operated using an Airbus A320 with a two-class (economy and business) configuration, will depart on Mondays and Fridays.
The timing will mean good connections via Madrid for other medium and short-haul destinations, including London, said Iberia.
There are currently no direct flights linking London and Rabat.
Flight IB3178 will leave Madrid at 11.40am on Mondays, arriving into Rabat at 12.10pm, and at 1pm on Fridays, arriving into Rabat at 1.30pm.
From Rabat, flight IB3179 will leave at 12.50pm on Mondays and 2.30pm on Fridays, arriving into Madrid at 3.15pm and 4.55pm respectively.
The new Moroccan destination will be Iberia’s fourth in the country, after Casablanca, Marrakesh and Tangier.
Iberia carried 220,000 passengers to Morocco in 2010, and plans to increase this figure in 2011 with a seat supply of 295,000.
