ITA Airways and All Nippon Airways (ANA) have signed a codeshare agreement to "connect their networks", the carriers announced on Thursday.
Effective from 24 January, the new commercial partnership will provide "enhanced connectivity" via the carriers’ respective hubs in Rome Fiumicino and Tokyo Haneda, as well as allow travellers to use a single ticket when travelling between Italy and Japan.
ITA Airways will add its AZ code on five domestic Japanese destinations: Sapporo, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Okinawa and Itami, while ANA will apply its NH code on ITA Airways’ flights between Tokyo and Rome as well as on five destinations in Italy – Bologna, Venice, Turin, Florence, Naples – connected to Rome Fiumicino Airport.
Codeshare flights between Italy and Japan are now on sale via the airlines' respective websites, reservation systems and travel agencies.
The carriers, in a statement, said they are looking to further expand the agreement by adding additional codes “in the near future”.
Including the deal with ANA, ITA Airways has established 34 codeshare agreements since launching in 2021. The nascent Italian carrier was also recently acquired by German airline group Lufthansa.
