A big rise in traffic to emerging markets helped Heathrow set a new record for annual passenger numbers.
In 2015, the west London hub served almost 75 million passengers, up 2.2 per cent on the previous year.
Increase in passenger volumes to areas such as China (18%), Latin America (8%) and Middle East (6%) helped the airport post a record-breaking year.
Heathrow also said a number of environmental factors such as quieter aircraft helped increase traffic, with seats per aircraft rising 2.1 per cent to 209 and passengers per aircraft jumping 1.9 per cent to 160.
Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye, said: “2015 has been a banner year for Heathrow, serving more passengers than ever and being recognised in a number of awards as the best major airport in Europe for both passenger service and eco-innovation.
“The record levels of passenger satisfaction are due to a significant increase in training, apprenticeships and the number of front line colleagues moving into management roles.”
