Heathrow has agreed a deal to advertise the UK’s regions at its terminals over the next few months.
The airport is currently engaged in a long-running publicity war with Gatwick after both were short-listed for possible expansion by the Airports Commission, headed by Sir Howard Davies.
Heathrow will now partner with six UK regions and cities, which will be given £3 million worth of advertising space in the airport. The areas to be promoted are the north-east, Northern Ireland, Leeds, Glasgow, Cardiff and Bristol.
These six areas will each receive six weeks of advertising, worth £500,000, across Heathrow’s digital platforms throughout the terminals including posters and exhibition space in arrival halls.
The first region to feature will be the north-east which will be promoted at the airport from May 18.
Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye said: “As the UK’s only hub airport, Heathrow is our front door for global investors. I hope that by encouraging them to visit and invest in our great cities, we can help to grow and rebalance the British economy.”
The advertising deal comes after Flybe’s CEO Saad Hammad said that Heathrow was currently doing a better job than Gatwick in supporting the UK’s regional air network.
