Heathrow has urged prime minister David Cameron to make a decision on expansion this week.
It is widely expected that a decision will be delayed due to further studies needed on the environmental impacts of expanding Heathrow.
Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye said: “The message to the prime minister this week is clear – expand Heathrow and unlock growth across the country.
“Businesses and unions, regions and local communities, politicians from all parties want certainty and to get on with Heathrow’s new plan.”
He added: “We’re ready to deliver the hub capacity this country needs – we will work with the government to make it happen.”
Business leaders and union groups including Unite and TUC have written to the prime minister highlighting Heathrow expansion as “fundamental to securing the UK’s long-term growth”.
The call to government comes as Heathrow saw 5.58 million passengers pass through last month, the busiest November on record and up 2 per cent year-on-year.
Growth was driven by larger, fuller, quieter aircraft. . Seats per aircraft increased 1.4 per cent to 210 while load factors increased 1.9 per cent to 72.3 per cent and passengers per aircraft rose 3.4 per cent to 152.
Within emerging markets, passenger volumes were particularly strong to Mexico which was up 52 per cent, China up 19 per cent and to the Middle East which was up 6 per cent.
