Deutsche Bahn (DB) will be closing Frankfurt Airport's (FRA) regional train station beneath Terminal 1 from 9-30 July for extensive track reconstruction work. Passengers travelling via S-Bahn commuter trains or other regional trains should allow more time for travelling to the airport.
During these three summer weeks, DB will completely replace railway tracks, ties and the roadbed along the approximately 16km (10ml) stretch between Kelsterbach and Frankfurt Stadion ” the stations immediately west and east of the airport. The S8 and S9 lines (S-Bahn trains) as well as regional trains from Saarbr”cken and Koblenz will be disrupted by the closure. However, the track renewal project will not affect Lufthansa's AIRail Service offered on ICE (InterCityExpress) trains operating between FRA's long distance station and Cologne and Stuttgart.
Despite the temporary closure of the station, Frankfurt Airport will continue to be linked to regional rail traffic via alternative replacement services. DB will be operating special S-Bahn "long" trains every 30 minutes between R”sselheim-FRA-Frankfurt Central Station, only making stops at Raunheim and Frankfurt-Niederrad.
During the reconstruction work in July, regional trains from Saarbr”cken and Koblenz will also stop at Raunheim station, where passengers can transfer to the replacement shuttle trains. Rail passengers coming from the east to FRA will transfer at Frankfurt Central Station to the special S-Bahn shuttle trains.
