Gulf carrier Emirates has taken delivery of its 20th Airbus A380 and will be serving two new destinations with the aircraft in 2012.
The addition of the new aircraft will allow Emirates to start operating its daily Dubai-Tokyo flights with an A380, from July 1, 2012.
The airline will also start operating its Dubai-Melbourne-Auckland route with an A380, from October 1, 2012.
It will be Emirates' second A380 to fly to Australia and New Zealand; the first has been operating the Dubai-Sydney-Auckland route since 2009.
Richard Jewsbury, Emirates' SVP, commercial operations, Far East and Australasia, said the announcement “demonstrates our commitment to the region”.
The airline took delivery of its first A380 in July 2008. It currently serves 16 destinations with the aircraft, and will add Kuala Lumpur on January 1, 2012.
