Easyjet CEO Carolyn McCall has been made a Dame for her services to the aviation industry in the New Year Honours list.
McCall has been boss of the low-cost carrier since 2010 during which time Easyjet has seen its profits rise for five consecutive years, as well as breaking passenger records.
“It is a recognition of Easyjet putting customers first and making travel for them as easy and affordable as possible,” said McCall on receiving the honour.
Before joining Luton-based Easyjet, McCall had been CEO of the Guardian Media Group. She had already received an OBE in 2008 for services to women in business.
McCall also won the David Brown Outstanding Achievement Award at the Business Travel Awards in January 2015.
Others in the travel industry to be honoured include Mukesh Sharma, managing director of Selective Travel Management in Northern Ireland, who receives an MBE for services to the travel trade in Northern Ireland.
Andrew Haines, chief executive of the CAA, has been given an OBE for services to transport and Barry Humphreys, former chairman of BATA, has been awarded a CBE for services to aviation and charity.
