Easyjet has announced the opening of its 29th base in Europe at Nantes airport in France as part of its long-term investment strategy in the country.
The airline began flying to Nantes in 2008 with a service from Geneva and has since carried 6.5 million passengers to and from the airport.
Easyjet will base three Airbus A320 aircraft in Nantes, allowing it to offer 2 million seats from the airport in 2019 – an increase of 37 per cent compared to its operations in 2018.
Its route network from Nantes includes flights to Luton, Gatwick, Bristol and Liverpool, as well as dozens of destinations across Europe, Marrakesh and Tel Aviv.
The airline says opening the base gives passengers access to 14 new routes, more frequency and more early departures to benefit business travellers.
CEO Johan Lundgren commented: “As we celebrate the launch of this new base in Nantes today, we are really proud to continue the airline’s successful expansion in France. Over 20 million passengers fly with us to and from France every year; that’s a quarter of all Easyjet passengers, which shows how important France is to the airline. This base opening is another significant milestone in France for Easyjet, now counting seven bases across the national territory from today.”
