EASYJET has been told off by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) following a campaign that claimed British Airways was conning its passengers. EasyJet, took out a series of newspaper advertisements, stating that BA had used deception to promote its low-cost fares. The advertisement read as follows: "The Con: BA claim flying to centrally-located airports is unique to them. Fact: all EasyJet airports are centrally located. The Con: BA proudly claim to offer 50,000 so-called low fares every month. Fact: at EasyJet, Europe's number one low-cost airline, low fares are a way of life." Some 25 people complained to the ASA, concerned that the adverts implied that BA's fares were a con. The ASA stated that the word "con" suggested dishonesty. The Authority noted the advertisers did not plan to repeat the advertisement and told them to avoid a similar approach in future. http://www.asa.org
