Freezing temperatures cause flight cancellations
Severe weather conditions continue to affect travellers across the UK today, causing flight cancellations and delays.
British Airways (BA) said: "Severe weather conditions continue to have an impact on our operations.
"We have cancelled a number of flights today and there are significant delays due to snow and the current icy conditions - specifically severe icing on the aircraft parking stands."
Customers are advised to check the status of their flight on ba.com before leaving for the airport.
London Heathrow airport remains open, but BAA has warned that passengers should ony travel to the airport if they have confirmed with their airline that their flight is operating.
"Our airfield team has worked round the clock to keep both runways clear but the threat of further snow and ice remains.
"In addition, yesterday's disruption at Heathrow and elsewhere has knock on effects which will result in further delays and cancellations today. We are doing everything we can to support both passengers and airlines," said BAA at Heathrow.
Gatwick airport is also experiencing disruption to flight arrivals and delays to departures.
"We are working hard to keep the runway clear, although the threat of more snow and ice remains.
"Some airlines are operating very restricted services, however, and we strongly advise passengers to contact their airline before setting out for the airport," said BAA at Gatwick.
London Stansted airport is open, despite more snow and ice expected across south-east England - again, passengers are advised to check with their airline for flight information before leaving for the airport.
Glasgow airport is open and the runway is operating normally, but some flights have been cancelled due to extreme weather in other areas of the UK. The airport is also using Twitter to keep travellers up to date - visit www.twitter.com/GLA_Airport
Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports are open, but again are experiencing cancellations and delays due to bad weather in other parts of the UK. Passengers should check with their airline before travelling.
Southampton airport is open, but flights are currently suspended " due to the clearance of ice from the runway in these freezing and changeable temperatures". Normal operations are expected to resume this morning, weather permitting.
Manchester airport remains open, despite temperatures in the area last night falling to the coldest ever since records began.
London City airport and the mainland European airports Frankfurt, Amsterdam Schiphol and Paris Charles de Gaulle are operating normally.
Rail services in the UK are also being affected by snow and ice, with many routes being disrupted, including on East Coast and Virgin Trains services.
UPDATE: The last trains out of London terminals will be leaving earlier than usual tonight. Train operating companies are advising travellers to check online for updates.
