Houston-based carrier Continental Airlines has announced plans to start a daily service to Nigeria's largest city, Lagos.
Flights from Continental's Houston hub are due to start in November 2011. The airline plans to use the new B787 Dreamliner on the route.
As well as Continental's first African route, it will be the first time a daily scheduled service has been offered between Texas and Africa.
Jeff Smisek, Continental's CEO, said: "This flight will link two energy capitals and fill the growing demand for nonstop service between the two cities - a route which is currently not served by any other airline."
Continental also plans to launch services to Auckland in November 2011.
