Brussels airport is still closed to all passenger flights following last week’s attacks.
Zaventem airport had hoped to partially open today (Wednesday March 30) within temporary constructions, but a message posted on the airport’s Twitter page this morning confirmed that “there will be no passenger flights into or out of #brusselsairport today. As soon as there's an update, we'll let you know.”
When the facility does reopen it is expected to handle around 800-1,000 passengers per hour, instead of the normal 5,000, and according to a report by the BBC, the airport’s CEO Arnaud Feist says it will be months before it can fully reopen.
Faust is quoted as saying that the terminal building will have to be rebuilt "from the air conditioning to the check-in desks".
BA's flight information page currently says that the carrier “will not be operating any flights to/from Brussels up to and including Monday April 4”, adding that “We are keeping the situation regarding flights from Tuesday April 5 under regular review and are awaiting more information from the authorities in Belgium”.
The airline also says that is offering “a number of flights” to the alternative Belgian gateway of Liege up to and including April 4.
Ryanair says that all flights to and from Brussels up to and including April 1 will operate to its base at Brussels Charleroi airport.
