British Airways will operate new services from London City airport to Berlin and Hamburg for this summer.
It is the first time British Airways has operated to Berlin from London City. The new route launches on June 19 using an Embraer 190 jet.
Hamburg is currently served by British Airways’ franchise partner Sun Air but from May 8, BA will take over the route using larger Saab 2000 aircraft, which will more than double the number of seats available on the route. Both of these new German routes will operate three times per day.
BA is also to base an extra Embraer 190 jet at the Docklands-based airport. The additional 98-seat aircraft, due to arrive in June, will be the 20th Embraer to join the British Airways fleet at London City.
The new routes will increase BA’s total number of weekly flights from London City to Germany to more than 70 including services to Dusseldorf and Frankfurt.
In a separate move, BA will add a weekly flight to Berlin to its new schedule from Stansted, which means it will operate to five destinations from the Essex airport this summer.
Luke Hayhoe, BA’s general manager commercial and customer at London City, said: “Germany is a very important market for us and these new routes give both our business and leisure customers a much wider choice of destinations with a well-timed schedule."
