Bristol airport recorded the highest on-time performance rating out of all major small, medium and large airports globally, according to aviation data specialists, OAG.
OAG’s 2014 punctuality league showed that within the UK, Bristol airport had a rating of 94.4 per cent. In comparison, Heathrow’s punctuality was 75.5 per cent and Gatwick’s was 61 per cent, showing the “operational challenges” both airports currently face, OAG said.
Latvian airline Air Baltic had the highest rating (94.9%) across all airlines followed by Hawaiian airlines (92.3%) and Austrian airlines (90%). Many airports and airlines achieved in excess of 90 per cent on-time performance within 15 minutes of schedule, the report said.
OAG’s punctuality report, based on 43.5 million flight records, showed the number one low-cost carrier last year was Norwegian Air Shuttle followed by Thai Air Asia and Easyjet.
The OAG punctuality league compares on-time arrival and departure performance of scheduled passenger flights operated by the top 200 scheduled airlines as defined by Available Seat Kilometres (ASKs):
