British Midland International (Bmi) has starting using a wide-bodied Airbus A330 on its Heathrow-Freetown route.
Passengers will also benefit from an improved journey on the four-times weekly service, as the A330 will not need to stop en route.
The airline previously used a smaller A321 aircraft on the route, which had to make a stop for refueling.
The wide-bodied aircraft features 196 seats in economy, with a 32-inch seat pitch and six degrees of recline, while the 36 business class seats have a 60-inch seat pitch and 50 degrees of recline.
Both cabins feature a 15-inch personal TV screen.
Bmi has been serving Freetown since May 2008, and is the only airline to offer direct flights to Sierra Leone’s capital.
Sierra Leone this year celebrates its 50th year of independence.
