British Airways has suspended all flights to Sierra Leone and Liberia for one month due to concerns over the Ebola outbreak.
BA was operating a direct four times weekly service from Heathrow to Sierra Leone and on to Liberia, but has suspended the route “due to the deteriorating public health situation in both countries”.
Earlier this week the World Health Organisation confirmed the number of deaths from the Ebola virus in West African countries including Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria had increased from 729 to 887.
In a statement BA said: "We have temporarily suspended our flights to and from Liberia and Sierra Leone until 31 August 2014 due to the deteriorating public health situation in both countries.
"The safety of our customers, crew and ground teams is always our top priority and we will keep the routes under constant review in the coming weeks.
"Customers with tickets on those routes are being offered a range of options including a full refund and the ability to rebook their flights to a later date."
It follows a decision by Emirates to suspend all services to Conakry in Guinea “until further notice” due to the outbreak of Ebola.
