Passengers have been left stranded at Auckland airport in New Zealand after flights were grounded following damage to a fuel supply pipeline over the weekend.
The burst pipeline is affecting fuel supplies to the airport, as it connects the Marsden Point fuel refinery to Wiri Oil Services Limited, which now has to ration the amount of fuel it can give to airlines. This resulted in around 27 domestic and international flights being cancelled over the weekend.
Delays and cancellations are expected to continue over the next few days while the pipeline’s owner Refining New Zealand works to repair the damage.
Adrian Littlewood, chief executive at Auckland airport, said: “We will have additional staff in the terminals supporting passengers and addressing any questions or concerns they may have. We strongly recommend that any passengers travelling over the coming days plan ahead and check with their airline for the latest information.”
